Met-Wi
From UrbanWiki
[edit] Expanding UCLA’s urban sensing network into the community
- By deploying a metropolitan scale Wi-Fi mesh Network around the new Los Angeles State Historic Park (LA SHP), a 32-acre site directly adjacent to LA‘s downtown.
- The network will connect two campus centers and the Los Angeles State Historic Park, in an agreement the California State Department of Parks and Recreation.
- A portable unit will be deployable in other locations.
[edit] Architecture of Met-Wi
- A site-to-site VPN will be used to connect two UCLA research centers, the network at the LA SHP and the portable system.
- We will use four class C subnets to allow each client device on the network to act as a directly-accessible server.
- The network will use Cisco products and general purpose hardware.
- The network will be able to locate and track client devices and hence verify and attest location reported by clients.
- Thus, will be used as a framework to build Mediator services for time/location attestation and data scrubbing, as well as services for auditing data.
[edit] MetWi Notes
APs are given "static" addresses assigned by DHCP.
- This is done using DHCP binding to MAC address through SDM.
- Also removed these addresses from DHCP pool so they are not given accidentally to some other host.
