7/10/07 - I have learned a lot over the last two weeks. I have learned about XML language, how to use the database "sensorbase.org", how to create files on Campaignr and transfer them from the computer to the phone. There is still lots to be done over this week. I am in the process of learning about HTML language and php programming as well. Once I have a basic understanding of these principles and concepts, I expect to play an intricate part in the development of the project "Remapping L.A."

7/12/07 - Yesterday was one of those days where nothing seemed to work as it should. I thought early on I was having luck creating a data base on mySQL, but it failed as I could not transfer the database to an html webpage. I have a feeling that a username is needed in order to print the database on an html webpage. It has only been a day since I began working on the php and mySQL computer languages. Hopefully today will be much better. I meet with Vids at 100pm and there is also an Urban Sensing Meeting at 200pm.
7/16/07 - Last week was my first presentation with all of the CENS interns. I now need to focus on what I wish to research here for the final five weeks. My research proposal is due this Friday, and I have to meet with my mentor today. I also want to start image processing with some captured during Monumento. Lots to do, but it has been fun.
7/18/06 - For the project regarding UCLA/IDEA, I was asked to create a student survey using xml language. the file came out correctly; however, there were a few quirks that still need to be adjusted. the meeting with UCLA/IDEA is at 100pm, however I have a seminar until 200pm. I really hope the meeting goes well for my mentor as well as for the group. here is a little blurb on the faults of the file:
I have created the xml file entitled "studentsurvey". one of the sensors that i have not used before is the "tag" sensor. i attempted to change the prompts for the "tag" sensor, but it would only work when a editable string was the answer to the prompt. the changed prompt would not work for the non-editable strings. another problem i am having with the file is determining whether or not it can upload to sensorbase. hopefully these quirks will work out eventually.
7/24/07 - The work that was done for UCLA/IDEA is now complete. The program Campaignr works correctly, and the xml file "Survey.xml" functions as it should. The phones have been sent out to IDEA and they will begin the campaign ASAP. I am realizing how fast this internship is flying by. I only have three and half weeks left, and I still need to write a paper and create a poster. However, I am very pleased to announce that I now have a research topic: 'An Approach to Participatory System Design in regards to REMAPPING LA' A mixture of culture, community, and technology. Awesome.
8/6/07 - I was told last week that the IDEA group decided to forego using the Nokia phones for their survey. I was disappointed when hearing this news, but this is experience in the research field. Not all projects are going to go through the first time. I am scheduled to have a follow-up with the two representatives of IDEA today. I just want to ask them a few questions: the process behind the project, what was to be gained from the research, etc. It seems as though the summer is finally beginning to wind down. Only two more weeks. What I must do before the end of this week:
-Finish the research paper
-Design and complete the CENS research poster
-Revamp the Campaignr tutorial, and learn about the Nokia GPS device
-Follow-up with UCLA/IDEA and ask questions
-REMAP Meeting at the site, tommorow at 1030am
-Read a paper and discuss findings on Thursday
Should make for an eventful week.
